What is SpaceLeft?

SpaceLeft is a program which aims to show the amount of free area of flash cards which are inserted in Compact card and/or PC card slots. SpaceLeft is provided as a free software.

The features of SpaceLeft include:

  1. Small and simple

    This program provides a very simple feature to show the free area. This program occupies just 10 or more kilo bytes in program size. It is so simple that it does not provides additional features such as residing in the task tray.

  2. Visual output

    The usage ratio of storage is shown visually using bar graph.

  3. Configuration for the storage card folders

    For European/Japanese Windows CE users, the folder name which represents the storage card is configurable.

  4. No need for MFC

    Because SpaceLeft does not use MFC. This makes SpaceLeft quite small.


How to execute SpaceLeft

You can execute it by tapping SpaceLeft applet in control panel.


How to exit from SpaceLeft

You can quit by pressing OK or exit button on the upper right corner of the SpaceLeft window. There is no difference between two buttons for SpaceLeft. Please note that there are no exit button on the upper right corner for the Pocket PC version.


How to Specify storage card folder names

SpaceLeft automatically track the storage card folders on your device. Still, you can specify the folder names for which SpaceLeft shows their amount.

To specify the names, push Configure... button on About page of SpaceLeft to specify them.


How to uninstall SpaceLeft

Before uninstalling the SpaceLeft, please make sure that SpaceLeft is not executing. Please exit from the program if it executed.

You can uninstall SpaceLeft via Remove Programs applet in control panel. There is an entry named 'Tillanosoft SpaceLeft'. Choose the entry then press Remove button.

Perform soft reset in case of Pocket PC to remove SpaceLeft applet from control panel.


Size mismatch to the System Properties

The total area shown by SpaceLeft may be different from the one shown by System Properties or Memory Properties of control panel.

The cause of the difference is not clear for the author. However, SpaceLeft just shows the value which is returned through Windows standard API GetDiskFreeSpaceEx(). Thus, the author would like to leave this problem as it is without being bothered any more.

On the other hand, shown free spaces equal to each other.


Maximum amount

The Windows standard function GetDiskFreeSpaceEx() can treat up to a certain amount of disk space which can be represented by 64 bit value. On the other hand, SpaceLeft can treat up to 4 TB.


Support to European and Japanese H/PC Pro and Pocket PC

Some H/PC and Pocket PC versions have different folder names according to their regional settings configured by CE device manufacturers. The author is aware that Japanese H/PC and Pocket PC have Japanese folder names for storage cards. SpaceLeft works correctly even in such cases. However, you can configure the folder names for storage cards.
